Surfboard Models
Short Board
The bread and butter, this is the board you want under your feet when the surf is cracking.
Since 95, we have constantly refined the rocker, rails and distribution of volume to get the most responsive board for good waves.
The short board is predominantly shaped with a deep single concave to give you un-limited speed and drive required when you need it most.
This is the board of choice for our team guys when it’s 4ft and hollow and you should make it yours too.
Designed for our South/East QLD waves.
Usually shaped with a deep single concave giving incredible speed and drive.
Designed and changed constantly over the past 13 years with the help of customers and team riders like Tara Christie and Nick Vitko.

PUNT
The punt model is our most popular model in our range. Knock two inches off the standard short board and add an inch of width and this creates the Punt.
If you are searching for the one board, this makes a perfect all rounder. The Punt is generally shaped with a squash tail and single concave. The wider plan shape helps generate momentum fast and also allows you to turn the board on a dime.
Bigger fins can be substituted to get more drive off the bottom on bigger days. The extra width also allows easier paddling and the squash tails helps in catching waves.

SCIMITAR
A blend of two old favourites, the Punt and Performance Shortboard, the Scimitar has a wider plainshape married with a performance rocker giving you ease of riding a wider board that you can still trust when it's over 4ft.
The scimitar features a pulled in hip and the tail shape is dependant upon what waves you want to surf it in, smaller waves rounded squares and squashes for release, bigger waves rounds and swallows fo more hold. Very versatile model. Most guys are riding this model 2-3 inches shorter than their normal shortboard.
With the aim of making a more durable product we have also been vacuum bagging the glass on with Carbon Kevlar around the rails. The result is a supper strong, lightweight board that is much less likely to end up in two pieces.

BLACKBIRD (Our Most Popular Model)
Primitive Surf Team rider Nick Vitko sat me down and we nutted this new model out. His is 5'7" and I have shaped them up to 6'3" The basic formula is go down 6 inches from your normal short board length and hang on... First surf he rang me frothing.
The Blackbird is a high performance fish and works best when combined with the MR twin fins from FCS. I took a 6ft 2 to PNG and it was the most popular board on the boat. They have great down the line speed and turn on a dime.
They seem to do all the work on a wave and just needed to be pointed in the right direction. A must have shape in any quiver!
This is now our biggest selling model, they have been flying off the shelves and the customs keep piling up.
This is a performance fish shape but can be ridden in pumping waves - no problem. (see Darren at overhead Ulu's)

FRIZZLE
The Frizzle was inspired by a need for our Ding guy "Frizzle" to get a better performance fish type board that would go good in a varity of waves.
It has a fish planshape with a wide round tail and is best when kept thin (this one is 5'10" x 19 1/4" x 2 3/16") with boxy rails.
Our Shop Manager Dale just came back from 2 weeks at Ulus and was raving about how it went in 4ft sucky waves (as pictured right).
This board is now his go-to board for 1-4ft waves

BLUNT
The Blunt was born when a long term customer came to me asking for me to make him a board similar to what Dane Reynolds had been riding.
I went to work and when it was finished it looked and felt insane.
I then realised that it was similar in the back half of the board to our Punt model....the Nose was wider than the Punt and the rocker slightly different but basically it was a tweeked Punt Model.....hence.....The Blunt.
This board should be about 2-3 inches shorter than your standard shortboard, the same thickness and an inch wider.
The Blunt has great down the line speed and will turn on a dime.
Great for slightly small days.

BLOB
This is the newest model in the Primitive range.
No swell, no worries when you have one of these little guys in the car.
The template draws from another extremely popular small wave board, featuring huge double concaves, a dead flat rocker, step deck rails, quad fin set up and huge wide round tail.
The results... An extremely lively board that will pick up a breath of a swell and paddles like a dream. Very lively rail to rail and extremely quick across those flat mushy sections.
Reesy has already started working on a couple of customs straight away for guys frothing on the shape. Come check them out in the store and feel free to give one a demo.

BIGBIRD
As the name suggests this model is just a blown up model of the black bird.
A fantastic board for a bigger guy that wants to ride a smaller board particular in small to medium sized waves.
The larger sizes like from 6'7'' to 7'6'' also make fantastic boards for beginners as the volume in these guys rivals a minimal but the performance aspect is a whole lot better and will tackle a more hollow wave without being to slow and cumbersome.
This shape will also allow a beginner to develop some turns without having to immediately buy a shorter board.

BIG GUY
The name says it all.
A bigger, wider, thicker short board.
The dimensions are similar to that of a mini-mal but refined so that you have a responsive board that floats.
The big guy also carries more rocker so that its’ quite manoeuvrable for a board this size.
A bigger, wider and thicker short board.
Great for people over 90kg or for people who don’t get in the water as often as they would like to. Also a good alternative to a Mini-Mal.
The main difference between these and a mini/mal is the Big Guy has a short board rocker and turns better.

RETRO FISHES
Every shaper is doing a version of the old twin fin fish and we also do version. They are good for shortboarders who don't want a mal on the really small days and also good for longboarders who want a shorter board in their quiver. So many options and so many sizes to put here. Your best option here is to let us know what you want or give us a rough idea and we can do the rest.
Our fibreglassing factory specialises in tinting, pigments and volan glass so any old retro looks can easily be made.
These are our way of making flat days fun. Because of the sheer volume and width, fishes make paddling a dream and can turn that 2ft mush into a fun surf. Increased buoyancy allows you to streak across flat sections and link turns in conditions that a short board wouldn’t allow.
Twin fins are a popular set up, but some people also add plugs for a centre fin option, so you can add a small trailing fin to tighten the fish in bigger, hollower waves.

RETRO SINGLE FINS
With the resurgence of old school surfboards our Retro boards have been running out the door.
This is a 6'1"Single Fin design.

MINI MALS
The Mini Mal can be great for small days and heaps of fun for the family.
It is also a brilliant board to learn on.
The most poular sizes are 7'2" & 7'6".

Performance Mals
These guys are very popular. A lively type of mal for performance surfing that really come into their own in good waves. Order them a touch narrower and thinner than a traditional mal and with heaps more rocker. Perfect for carving turns. Most of these feature a pulled in pin tail and a more pulled in nose which allows it to fly down the line on bigger days and hold rail well through critical turns.
In addition to the Perfomance Mal, I also shape a Traditional Mal which has more volume and is a great all round board for a variety of waves. To round out the mal range the LOG model is a bit of a throwback to the 60's and as the name suggests it's got a heap of volume and is perfect for small sliding waves and nose riding. I have added a little bit more of modern tail rocker to allow for more maneuverability than what guys were doing all those years ago!

Channel Bottom
Made popular by the likes of Al Byrne and Matt Hoy, “Channel” bottoms are speed demons suited to the points or reef breaks.
Channels create an instant burst of speed and untold drive, which makes for a board that will eat up those hollow waves.
These old favourites generate great speed and are insane on the points of SE QLD.
This will be your best friend if your doing trips to any exoctic locations with hollow glassy waves!

Size recommendations are aimed at an intermediate to advanced surfer for use in average to good conditions. Variations may need to be made to sizes for surfers of differing abilities and also differing wave conditions.
